It was a win-win for small business and global girls education on December 11 at Shop. Sip. Support.—a happy hour holiday shopping event benefiting Girls Education Collaborative.

The event was hosted by tirelessly supportive GEC board member Louise Sano (who, it should be noted, was recently featured by NPR in a story on how refugees are transforming the community!) at her Buffalo-based boutique, Global Villages, which carries fabulous jewelry, housewares, decorative items, and wearables handcrafted by artisans from Africa and around the world. Louise was generous enough to donate 20 percent of sales from the day to GEC and issued an open invitation to locals to stop in to socialize over a glass of wine and snack on delicious, homemade samosas and fritters while they shopped.

The turnout was everything we could have hoped for, resulting in a very nice donation to GEC, and—drumroll, please!—Louise’s best day of sales EVER!

It just goes to show you how incredibly effectual the synergism between local forces and global causes can be in our ever-shrinking world—to the benefit of everyone involved!
